Ohio State basketball is now targeting a former SEC guard in the transfer portal who was a highly rated high school recruit
The Buckeyes are now after a former SEC guard to fill a key bench role. Ohio State has been connected to a former top-50 high school recruit.
The Ohio State Buckeyes started off decently in the transfer portal. Ohio State basketball didn’t land the top players they were connected to in the portal. Ohio State did land former California G Justin Pippen as their most significant addition.
Along with Pippen, Ohio State added former Kentucky F Andrija Jelavic in the portal and he’ll compete with Josh Ojianwuna to be the starting center next season.
Ohio State still needs to add at least a couple of players. The Buckeyes have been connected to a former top-50 recruit in the SEC.
Ohio State basketball targeting former Tennessee Vols guard
According to Bucknuts, Ohio State is heavily interested in ex-Tennessee G Amari Evans. Notably, Evans reportedly has interest in the Buckeyes. Evans spent one season with Tennessee and is the No. 80 overall (No. 11 shooting guard) player in the transfer portal, according to 247 Sports.
Evans was the No. 50-ranked player in the class of 2025 and the No. 4 player in the state of Georgia, per 247 Sports. The talented guard picked Tennessee over Georgia, Illinois, Texas A&M, Ole Miss, and TCU.
The 6-foot-5, 220-pound guard originally from Pennsylvania averaged 4.1 points, 3.8 rebounds, and one steal per game in 35 games with two starts. Evans played 14.4 minutes per game as a freshman for Tennessee and is a standout defender. Evans’ length was a problem for opponents in the SEC as a freshman. And he could give the Buckeyes a slasher/defender off the bench for next season.
Ohio State lost Taison Chatman and Gabe Cupps to the transfer portal as its top two guards off the bench. The Buckeyes would be filling one of those roles if they could add Evans. A player who is also receiving interest from Texas notably.
