Rick Barnes and the Tennessee Volunteers still need to land another big man out of the NCAA transfer portal. The Vols have several options that they are reportedly considering.

The Tennessee Vols recently hosted Kennesaw State transfer forward Braedan Lue on a visit.

Lue, 6-foot-9/235 pounds, averaged 10.9 points and 5.3 rebounds per game as a sophomore last season. Lue recorded a double-double (12 points and 10 rebounds) in a loss to Alabama last December.

Vols head coach Rick Barnes hinted this week that Tennessee has landed a commitment from a big man that isn’t public yet. There’s speculation that Lue is the player Barnes was referencing, due to the timing of his visit.

“How do you know we haven’t added some and haven’t told you?” said Barnes. “That’s what you should be asking. And the answer to that is yes, but we’re not gonna tell you. But the fact is as we look at what we have left, we want to make sure that, again, that we got guys that certainly understand the physicality in this league. And we addressed that with what we have and what we have left.”

Braedan Lue expected to visit another program after checking out Tennessee

According to On3’s Jamie Shaw, Lue is scheduled to visit UAB this week.

“Lue had a visit to Tennessee that wrapped up on Thursday, and I am told he is scheduled to go to UAB this weekend… Watch to see if he makes the UAB visit and if any other schools (or a timeline) emerge,” wrote Shaw on Friday.

No offense to UAB, but it’s hard to imagine Lue would pick them over the Vols. But it also depends on how interested Tennessee really is in Lue.

Of course, this whole conversation may be moot, depending on whether Lue is the silent commit that Barnes was referencing.

Transfer decisions often move fast, so Vols fans shouldn’t have to wait too long to find out if Lue is going to be playing on Rocky Top this fall.

Update:

The wait is already over. Lue committed to Tennessee on Friday, so it looks like that visit to UAB won’t be happening.
