Former Tennessee Vols cornerback Jermod McCoy wasn’t selected in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft.

McCoy, who was regularly mocked as a top 10 selection the last few months, fell out of the first round due to concerns about a bone plug that was used to repair a cartilage defect in his knee.

The Texas native tore his ACL after the 2024 season, which caused him to miss the entire 2025 season. McCoy, though, had a great Pro Day in March, which seemingly solidified his status as a top 15 selection, but the new concerns about his knee resulted in him dropping out of the first round.

McCoy is still one of the most talented players in the draft, so whoever selects him will be getting incredible value, albeit with the risk of the former Vol potentially missing significant time if he requires a second surgery.

ESPN’s Matt Miller doesn’t think McCoy will have to wait long to hear his name called on Night 2 of the draft.

Miller predicts that the New York Giants will select McCoy with the No. 37 overall pick.

“McCoy ranked as my No. 10 overall prospect in the class based off film study, but questions surrounding the long-term health of his knee following an ACL injury in January 2025 caused him to slip,” wrote Miller. “The Giants will jump on the opportunity to select a top-10 player at a core position of need.”

The way this played out is unfortunate for McCoy. Things out of his control caused his stock to plummet the week of the draft.

McCoy, however, is still just 20 years old. If he can stay healthy, which is obviously the concern, then he can still earn a huge payday before turning 25.
