Recruiting for the Florida Gators has been operating at a very high level.

Over the last four weeks, head coach Jon Sumrall has landed seven commitments to bring the 2027 class up to 10 total, including their first five-star offensive lineman since 2015 (Martez Ivey) in Maxwell Hiller. That makes 10 commitments in the 2027 recruiting class, which is five times what former head coach Billy Napier had at this point last season.

The coaching staff has been all over recruiting, but they aren’t the only ones.

Multiple players and Gators commits are recruiting Jalen Brewster

The top overall recruit is Texas Tech Red Raiders defensive lineman Jalen Brewster. He’s made two visits to Gainesville, and defensive line coach Gerald Chatman took a visit to Cedar Hill, Texas this week to see Brewster in person.

It was great to see Chatman visit Brewster, as this kind of communication will go a long way to secure a possible commitment. The Gators still have a long way to go, and it’s something that fellow players know. They are taking to social media in recruiting Brewster, including four-star quarterback commit and 2026 four-star signee KJ Ford from Duncanville, Texas.

This is another signal of the vibes changing in Gainesville, something that they desperately needed. Rivals’ Steve Wiltfong has seen it transpire quickly.

โ€œI think this is a staff from the top down, coach Sumrall to everybody else in that facility, they are putting a huge emphasis on high school football recruiting, pouring a lot of energy and resources into it. These prized recruits that come to campus, they have a relationship with Coach Sumrall. They have a relationship with these coordinators, and they are excited about the trajectory of a Florida football program that, not long ago, was the most dominant team in college football. Coach Sumrall has set an expectation and a tone among this program, and it is resonating with these coveted recruits. They have the resources to finish off these conversations, but it is the energy and the track record that has Florida in the mix for these recruiting battles, and theyโ€™re getting it done.โ€

It’s far from a guarantee the Gators get an official visit, let alone a commitment. However, seeing this kind of full court press speaks volumes about both how serious they are and how things have changed.
