Florida Gators recruiting prowess continues with another visit to top overall recruit, and it’s a symptom of a massive shift in Gainesville
Despite being committed to the Texas Tech Red Raiders, the Florida Gators are being very aggressive with No. 1 overall recruit Jalen Brewster.
Florida Gators head coach Jon Sumrall came into Gainesville with a lot of ideas on how to improve recruiting. The first was hiring a quality coaching staff, which he did quickly. In turn, they have spurned high-level recruiting.
At this point last year, the Gators had just two recruits committed. Right now, the Gators have 10 commitments with more seemingly projected.
- Five-star offensive lineman Maxwell Hiller
- Four-star quarterback Davin Davidson
- Four-star cornerback Aamaury Fountain
- Four-star offensive lineman Peyton Miller
- Four-star cornerback Amare Nugent
- Four-star wide receiver Anthony Jennings
- Four-star wide receiver Tramond Collins
- Three-star tight end Jackson Ballinger
- Three-star tight end Tommy Douglas
- Three-star defensive lineman De’Voun Kendrick
Even with that many recruits committed, the Gators are taking all the time they can with the top overall recruit in the nation.
Florida Gators continue relentless pursuit of Jalen Brewster
When the Gators got a visit from No. 1 overall recruit Jalen Brewster in the beginning of March, it was a huge win. They have struggled in recent years to get five-stars to commit, and landing Hiller was a big deal. Defensive line coach Gerald Chatman paid Brewster a visit in Texas.
It’s another step for the Gators in their pursuit of Brewster. His addition to a defensive line that already has the likes of Jayden Woods and multiple true freshmen, including KJ Ford, it’s a salivating idea. He’s already visited twice over the last two months, and an official visit could come soon.
If they find a way to land him, it will be a massive win for the Gators, and Rivals’ Steve Wiltfong highlighted how their recruiting has improved.
“I think this is a staff from the top down, coach Sumrall to everybody else in that facility, they are putting a huge emphasis on high school football recruiting, pouring a lot of energy and resources into it. These prized recruits that come to campus, they have a relationship with Coach Sumrall. They have a relationship with these coordinators, and they are excited about the trajectory of a Florida football program that, not long ago, was the most dominant team in college football. Coach Sumrall has set an expectation and a tone among this program, and it is resonating with these coveted recruits. They have the resources to finish off these conversations, but it is the energy and the track record that has Florida in the mix for these recruiting battles, and they’re getting it done.”

One consistent element throughout the entire Sumrall era has been the energy of the entire staff. Recruits continue to talk about how the staff has been full of energy, and vibe is completely different from what it was under Billy Napier.
It’s far from certain that Brewster will commit, let alone come for an official visit. However, the fact that the Gators have gotten into the hunt for Brewster this late in the game signals how much things have changed.
