The Tennessee Vols are set to host 2027 five-star running back David Gabriel Georges on an official visit on June 5.

Tennessee is battling Ohio State, Ole Miss, and Georgia for the coveted running back, who is viewed by some as the best recruit in the nation.

“This class is loaded with talent, but DGG is the best player we’ve evaluated,” said a college coach to 247Sports’ Tom Loy this week. “I guess it’s close, but there isn’t a bigger priority for us.”

While Ole Miss and Georgia are also set to receive official visits from Gabriel Georges, it’s Tennessee and Ohio State that are believed to be the two frontrunners in this battle (Gabriel Georges will take an official visit to Ohio State on May 29).

Some national recruiting analysts have pushed the narrative this spring that Ohio State is the leader for Gabriel Georges.

VolQuest’s Austin Price, however, doesn’t believe the five-star recruit has made up his mind yet.

“Tennessee’s in as good a spot as they can be, as we sit here in early May,” said Price on 104.5 The Zone’s Ramon and Will. “Now, I don’t believe David Gabriel Georges has made up his mind. No matter what everybody wants to say, and has pushed [that] narrative for so long, I don’t believe Gabriel Georges has made a decision.

“I think he likes both schools. I think there are perks at both, and that’s why he’s going to go through the official visit process. Tennessee has some nice feathers in their cap, and Ohio State does as well. But again, I continue to like where Tennessee is at, as we sit here in early May. But I also firmly believe DGG does not know for certain what he’s doing right now, and so he is going to go through the process and see where things shake out.”

The next big update in this recruiting battle will come after Gabriel Georges takes his official visits. We should have a better idea of where Tennessee and Ohio State stand in June after those visits.
