Top Florida Gators target’s recruitment is getting complicated with a long road ahead of them
Jon Sumrall and staff have long made No. 1 overall recruit Jalen Brewster a priority, but it could be slipping away from them.
Recruiting is the No. 1 topic in the world of college football right now, and that’s especially true for the Florida Gators.
Head coach Jon Sumrall has been doing a great job in landing top recruits. He has the Gators ranked with Rivals’ No.7 overall class and they aren’t done with 24 commitments thus far.
Their top two targets right now are both five-star recruits: wide receiver Easton Royal and defensive lineman Jalen Brewster. Even though both players are committed, the Gators have pushed hard for both to flip to Gainesville.
Latest intel with Jalen Brewster provides interesting details
There were some interesting developments in Brewster’s recruitment on Tuesday. Early in the morning, Inside Texas’ Charlie Williams dropped a bombshell stating that he is expected to part ways with the Texas Tech Red Raiders, whom he’s been committed to since October.
“Inside Texas is hearing from a DFW source that Texas Tech and Jalen Brewster, the nation’s No. 1 defensive lineman out of Cedar Hill (Texas), are expected to mutually part ways in the near future. IT is also hearing Texas Tech isn’t expected to put up much of a fight to keep the commitment together or aggressively recruit him back once he officially de-commits.
The timing is noteworthy, especially after recent developments surrounding Brewster’s ties to Lubbock had many believing he would remain committed to the Red Raiders.”
That is interesting piece of information, and it got more interesting when Williams mentioned that the LSU Tigers were the favorite.
A couple hours later, Rivals’ Sam Spiegelman received some intel about his recruitment, and it was simple. “Nothing has changed” in regards to his commitment to Texas Tech, one source said.
That is an interesting discrepancy, but it’s not out of bounds when it comes to recruiting. Different sources will have their own reads and intel, especially with how recruits will talk to different members of the media.
The one concerning element for the Gators is how they aren’t being mentioned at the top anymore. Williams did say that the Gators are “highly motivated” to recruit Brewster. That’s been evident in the multiple visits to his high school and his three visits to Gainesville.
Can they get the momentum going back in their favor? It’s always possible, but things certainly aren’t going their way.
