Texas football fans just got the offseason sign they were hoping they weren’t going to see
Texas Longhorns fans may have just received a bad sign as the program looks to hold on to 2027 five-star wide receiver Easton Royal.
The Texas Longhorns are currently in the midst of a recruiting battle for 2027 five-star wide receiver Easton Royal.
Royal, the No. 1 wide receiver in the nation, has been committed to Texas since last November, but the LSU Tigers are working hard to flip the New Orleans native.
“They made a very big, significant jump,” said Royal to Rivals after a recent official visit to LSU. “They’re in a very good spot. They’re very close to Texas now after this weekend.”
“They continue to show me everything I need is here,” added Royal. “I can go be great anywhere else, but why not do the same thing at home … in front of your hometown and close to the people you love. They’re showing me the whole state is behind me.”
Royal is expected to make a “final decision” sometime this month.
2027 four-star running back Trey Martin, an LSU commit, may have spilled the beans this week, however, on Royal’s looming decision.
Martin spoke to On3 about his recent commitment to LSU and his comments made it sound like Royal is already a Tiger.
“The best in the Boot stay in the Boot,” said Martin. “We have a lot of great guys like Pop (Houston) and Easton (Royal). We’re going to build a great class.”
Maybe that’s wishful thinking from Martin. Or maybe he knows something the rest of us don’t.
Recruiting is fluid — especially in the NIL era — so things can change at any moment. Regardless of what decision Royal makes this month, this could be a recruiting battle that isn’t fully settled until signing day arrives in December.
