New report confirms the biggest reason Tennessee is expected to land David Gabriel Georges, and it’s not money related

It’s not time for Tennessee Vols fans to celebrate quite yet, but it’s looking increasingly likely that UT will be the pick for 2027 five-star running back David Gabriel Georges on Wednesday.
On3’s Steve Wiltfong, who has long suggested that Ohio State is the team to beat in this recruiting battle, predicted on Tuesday that Tennessee will land Gabriel Georges.
There are obviously a myriad of factors that will go into Gabriel Georges’ decision, but one big factor, according to Wiltfong, is the ability to be the guy from day one at Tennessee.
The opportunity to wear No. 0, which isn’t an option at Ohio State, is also a factor.
“One of the biggest reasons why Tennessee looks to be trending, beyond the relationships and NIL, is the chance to be a day-one starter,” wrote Wiltfong. “If Gabriel Georges does choose the Vols as expected, he’ll be in line to start as a true freshman. He will also be able to retain his jersey number, No. 0.”
Wiltfong also noted that “Ohio State worked to get it close on the NIL side,” so it sounds like the final gap in offers wasn’t quite as big as previously reported.
Buckeyes running back Bo Jackson, who rushed for 1,090 yards as a true freshman last season, will be a junior in 2027 when Gabriel Georges is a true freshman. That’s why Ohio State can’t promise Gabriel Georges the No. 1 running back role as a true freshman.
Nothing will be official until Gabriel Georges makes his announcement on July 22, but it’s looking really good for the Vols as we enter the 11th hour.
