Miami Hurricanes add ‘another Travis Hunter archetype’ to elite 2027 recruiting class on Friday
The Hurricanes added the best two-way player in the nation to their elite 2027 recruiting class.
Mario Cristobal and the Miami Hurricanes are on a roll on the recruiting trail this offseason. And what looked to be a largely complete class just added a new crown jewel to it on Friday afternoon.
Miami Columbus ATH A’Mir Sears, the number one player in the 2028 class per 247 Sports, reclassified this week to the 2027 class and set his decision for Friday at 5:00 pm ET.
And on Friday, Sears went with the program that recruiting insiders had linked him to, reaching down, grabbing a paper back, and putting on the Miami Hurricanes hat. Michigan had made a late push, but Sears chose the Canes over the Wolverines, as well as LSU and Texas A&M.
It’s another five-star pickup for Cristobal, as Sears held his five-star status after reclassifying to 2027. Sears has been considered by some as the best recruit to come from South Florida since Jeremiah Smith almost three years ago.
And one former Hurricane standout sees a truly special ability in the talented two-way player.

The comparison to the 2024 Heisman Trophy winner is not a hollow one either. Sears has been viewed as one of the best, if not the best cornerbacks in the nation.
But Sears can also make plays at the highest level as a wide receiver. He totaled 49 catches for 942 yards and 11 touchdowns last year. On the other side of the ball, he has 61 tackles, 3 interceptions, and 11 pass breakups.
He will immediately find himself on the field on one side or the other for the Hurricanes in the 2027 season. And sooner than later, he could find himself wowing fans on both sides of the ball every week for the Canes.
