The Eagles needed this reset, and Jalen Hurts just gave the 2026 roster its mission statement.

Hurts dropped another philosophical gem during training camp, a quote-of-the-year candidate that should be plastered on every wall inside the NovaCare Complex:

“It’s 100% alignment, zero entitlement.”

That right there is a direct shot at who the Eagles were last year and who they want to be this year.

The A.J. Brown cloud has lifted

Look, nobody is questioning A.J. Brown’s talent. The man is one of the best wide receivers in football. But talent without buy-in is a ticking time bomb, and we watched it detonate in real time last season. Rapoport’s report just confirms what we all suspected. Brown was apparently unhappy behind the scenes, talking about the offense, creating friction when the team needed cohesion. We were all frustrated with the offense last year. Every Eagles fan, every player, every coach. But when you’re part of a collective trying to win a championship, you have to put some things to the side. Brown never seemed willing to do that.

Think about it. This is a guy who won a Super Bowl and said it wasn’t as fulfilling as he expected. A.J. had different priorities. He wanted to be a Hall of Famer, wanted to be a true No. 1, wanted 2,000-yard seasons. That’s fine. There’s nothing wrong with individual ambition. But Philadelphia is trying to go on a run here. The Eagles have the talent for the next three, four, five years to compete for championships, and that window requires everybody rowing in the same direction.

The 2023 collapse should have been the blueprint for how to bounce back. The team fell apart, regrouped, brought in better coaching, and won the Super Bowl the following season. Brown saw that happen firsthand. So the idea that one rough offensive stretch under a bad coordinator was enough to push him out the door? I still don’t fully understand it. But it doesn’t matter anymore. He’s gone, and the early returns from training camp suggest the Eagles are better for it.

Despite however you want to phrase what happened last season, there were guys on that roster who were not bought in. There was entitlement. There was not an alignment. Hurts wants everybody on the same page, and he’s making that crystal clear before a single preseason snap.

These are the leadership qualities and characteristics that get talked about constantly but rarely get put into full perspective. Hurts doesn’t just say the right things. He lives them. He holds himself accountable, he puts the team first, and he demands the same from everybody around him. That’s why the vibe at training camp already feels different.

And this is a lesson that applies across every sport, every team, every level of competition. You can have the 10 best players in the world, but if you’re not on the same page, if your coaching staff can’t bring the group together, if guys can’t buy into the system, it’s not going to matter. We saw that play out with the Eagles last year. A roster loaded with talent that never reached its ceiling because the distractions were too loud.

I love that quote from Hurts so much that it should define the entire 2026 season for Philadelphia. One hundred percent alignment, zero entitlement. That’s the standard. And if you’re not willing to buy into that, you should not be on the field for this team.

The Eagles have a new offensive coordinator in Sean Mannion, a revamped wide receiver room led by DeVonta Smith, and a defense stacked with young talent ready to take the next step. The pieces are there. The drama is gone. And the quarterback is laying down the law before training camp even heats up.

Philadelphia needed a clean slate after the chaos of last season, and everything coming out of camp suggests they got one. Now it’s about execution, and with Hurts setting this kind of tone, I like where the Eagles are headed.
