There’s been plenty of speculation and rumors about the possible return of Donald to Los Angeles this offseason. The whispers started shortly after the Rams secured All-Pro MonStar Myles Garrett in a blockbuster trade — a move that gave Los Angeles the league’s best defensive weapon. The possibility of pairing him with Donald, the league’s former best defensive weapon, is a surreal thought. And it’s perhaps one step closer to coming true per the NFL’s daily transaction wire.

Whew. The reality of Donald and Garrett hasn’t quite sunken in yet — and it’s still not officially done. But if Donald ends up returning to action, he’ll have a few things working in his favor to assure an impact. First and foremost, he won’t need to play a high volume of snaps. The Rams are deep up front with names like Turner and Fiske to help keep the snap counts down for a 35-year old Donald.
Second, Garrett’s presence off the edge is a massive chess piece for defensive coordinator Chris Shula. Shula’s been tabbed with developing players over recent years. Now? He’s got Garrett in the trenches. Do you play Garrett opposite a (hypothetically returned) Donald? Which way does the center turn in that scenario? How do you get numbers to help in protection?
And lastly, Donald would be fresh if he rolled it back. He hasn’t played since 2023. The legs would, in theory, have plenty of bounce. This isn’t just a fun “what if”. It’s a legitimate math problem for opposing offenses. And it seems it may be one step closer to also being reality.
