The Florida Gators‘ 2027 recruiting class is currently sitting in a great spot.

Head coach Jon Sumrall has the Gators with the No. 8 recruiting class, including the third-most blue chip recruits at 17 of their 25. The crown jewel of the class is No. 2 overall recruit, offensive lineman Maxwell Hiller, and Sumrall continues to swing and land other five-star recruits, mainly defensive lineman Jalen Brewster and wide receiver Easton Royal.

Florida Gators still have a chance at Easton Royal

The 5-11, 200-pound wide receiver is the top player at his position and the No. 5 overall recruit per Rivals going into his senior season. While he’s been committed to the Texas Longhorns since the day before Sumrall took the Gators job, November 29th, Royal has still heavily entertained both the Gators and LSU Tigers.

Even with him entertaining the Gators, they have fallen behind the top two schools, but they can find a way to get back into it, as Royal will be attending the September 26th game at The Swamp when the Ole Miss Rebels come to town. It’s important for a multitude of reasons, as it will come after his gameday visit to LSU (September 5th) and Texas (September 12th), per Rivals.

Having Royal back on campus will be huge for the Gators as they look to land one of the top recruits in the class of 2027. It will still be an uphill battle, but Royal has described his relationship with Sumrall as the strongest thus far during his recruitment. That’s the likely reason why the Gators are in the position they are with Royal.

Can they turn the corner and get him to commit? It’s certainly possible, as the gameday atmosphere is significantly different than it is during the summer. Will it happen? Probably not, especially since Royal is also attending the Longhorns heading to Death Valley to face LSU.

Even so, being involved at this stage is still good for the Gators.
