Florida Gators have potential superstar on their hands, and the proof is in the offseason success
One of the biggest what ifs of the 2025 Florida Gators was in the wide receiver room, and he’s ready for 2026.
The Florida Gators are set to kick off fall camp on Wednesday, officially kicking off the Jon Sumrall era of football.
He inherited a fascinating program that Billy Napier led for the last four years, which always had a lot of talent, but couldn’t live up to their potential. The majority of that came from frustrating playcalling from Napier during all four years, leading for many to call for the hiring of a new offensive coordinator. This year, Sumrall won’t have that issue.
Dallas Wilson is ready to take the next step
The best example of what could have been last season with better play calling was wide receiver Dallas Wilson. He had a monster debut against the Texas Longhorns, grabbing six receptions for 126 yards and two touchdowns. The other three games he was not very effective before a foot injury ended his season.
Wilson is ready to be a superstar, and he’s training like one. Not only did he lose 15 pounds, but he is working hard to run a 4.3 40-yard dash.
One interesting element with Wilson was the lingering foot injury from last year. He missed the first month of the season, including fall camp. He spent time at the Nike Performance Center, where he had specialized cleats made.
“They had me do a very various amount of drills,” said Wilson. “Did that with some tectonic plates on the floor, and then they really just seeing how much power I was putting on the floor, my left and my right foot, and when I was getting out of brakes and all, then it all came together.”
Being that he is going into his first fall camp, it’s exciting to see what could be with Wilson, especially with his athleticism.
“So getting out there with all the guys and all the players, just having fun out there and really, and just really competing. So it’s really good. This must gonna be my really my first ball in camp, so see how it goes. But I’ve been stepping out as a leader to the younger guys and some of the older guys,” said Wilson.
If Wilson is finally able to stay healthy, the Gators could have one of, if not the, best wide receiver rooms in the nation.
