The Florida Gators are nearly two weeks into fall camp, and we still have many questions about where things stand. Aaron Philo and Tramell Jones Jr. are both competing for the starting quarterback job, and we don’t know who will be throwing the likes of Eric Singleton, Dallas Wilson, and Vernell Brown III the football.

When you watch the Gators, running back Jadan Baugh and the wide receivers are going to be the main focus.

Micah Mays continues to get praise

Within the wide receiver room, how the depth shakes out is still up in the air. One player who continues to get praise is Micah Mays, who On3 Sports’ Pete Nakos highlighted.

“Florida could have one of the top receiver rooms in the nation with Dallas Wilson, Vernell Brown III and Eric Singleton. But the receiver On3 continues to hear the most buzz about this summer and into preseason has been Wake Forest transfer Micah Mays. Mays totaled 34 catches for 520 yards over two seasons with the Demon Deacons, and sources have said he can line up at any receiver spot. As one source put it to On3, he’s ‘an absolute stud.’”

He showed himself to be explosive during the spring game, where he caught a 75-yard touchdown pass from Jones.

At 6-2 and 200 pounds, Mays gives the Gators what they don’t have a lot of in that room: size. Outside of Wilson, they don’t have a lot of it. Brown and Singleton are more Z and slot receivers, as is T.J. Abrams. Having that size will be huge for the Gators moving forward.

The real question will be how much playing time he will get? There are a lot of impressive players in that wide receiver room, and snaps will be at a premium. Even so, this isn’t the first time we’ve gotten praise for Mays.

Needless to say, the Gators are in a great spot going into the season.
