Former Tennessee Vols player has short but strong comment on social media refuting claim about a leader in Vols’ QB battle
The Vols’ QB battle is a tight one, and a VFL made sure that was clear on social media.
We’re now over halfway through the month of August, and fall camps have started to shape roster battles for programs across the country. Players have staked claims to roles, and in some cases, starters have been named.
But that’s not necessarily the case in the crucial quarterback battle taking place in Knoxville. At the very least, not publicly. Redshirt freshman George MacIntyre and true freshman Faizon Brandon have been on center stage for what’s apparently been a very close battle between the two for the starting job.
That being said, someone had to come out and call for a leader publicly, and that’s what an account called @SleeperCFB on Twitter (X) did recently, claiming that “reports out of Tennessee is George MacIntyre is leading the QB battle” and that his “consistency” is giving him the edge over Brandon.
Well, that drew a short but sweet response from former Tennessee running back Aaron Hayden, who responded by saying “[W]rong on so many levels!”
Former Tennessee RB responded to post saying George MacIntyre is leading the Vols’ QB competition
Hayden would go on to clarify that he wasn’t taking a side in the battle and that he understands it to still be a close battle.
And that’s pretty much in line with what everyone who has been in attendance at fall campo has said the competition is based on their observations and input: razor thin. This isn’t like last year, when Joey Aguilar went out and won the job convincingly over Jake Merklinger such that he was named starter roughly two weeks before the Vols’ opener. This is one that’s felt neck and neck in which Heupel and his staff will take extensive time evaluate and name the winner.
Tennessee’s second scrimmage will take place on Saturday, and in all likelihood, that will be the closing act of this competition that will help decide who leads Tennessee’s offense in 2026. And until then, speculation is pretty much an exercise in futility.
