One thing that LSU head coach Lane Kiffin is well known for may be missing in Baton Rouge this fall

One of Lane Kiffin’s big trademarks as a coach may not be as visible as expected at LSU this fall.
Kiffin, who is entering his first season as the Tigers’ head coach, is known for having some gimmicks on the sideline during games — such as the fire extinguisher at Ole Miss.
LSU fans, however, probably shouldn’t expect too many over-the-top sideline gimmicks this fall.
Kiffin was asked about the sideline stuff on Thursday while meeting with reporters and his answer was quite interesting.
“I just kind of over years have thought of things and tried them in spring and stuff,” said Kiffin. “Just kind of way outside the box things that just create an [identity]. “There’s a plan when we go to places that are specific for those places. And sometimes I feel like a place needs to create an identity and create national interest from recruits around the country and the way people see it.”
Kiffin didn’t specifically say that he won’t have any sideline gimmicks at LSU, but I think his identity comment was telling. LSU obviously has a national identity — it’s one of the biggest brands in college sports. It’s not like Kiffin needs a gimmick in Baton Rouge to generate national interest, or to generate interest from recruits. LSU is LSU.
Now, I could still see Kiffin putting his own spin on things — the sideline basketball goal has reportedly been out at practice — but for the most part, I wouldn’t expect any over-the-top gimmicks on LSU’s sideline in 2026. It’s just not necessary, and I think Kiffin knows that as well as anyone.
