‘Shout out to Tennessee’ – Joey Aguilar sent a message about the Vols after his second preseason game with the Jaguars

Former Tennessee Vols quarterback Joey Aguilar had a good showing in the Jacksonville Jaguars’ second preseason game.
Aguilar, who is battling for the No. 3 quarterback job in Jacksonville behind starter Trevor Lawrence and backup Nick Mullens, completed 9-of-10 passes for 130 yards and a touchdown in the Jaguars’ loss to the Panthers.
Aguilar told 1010XL on Sunday that he’s feeling “decent” in Jaguars camp, and he credited the Vols’ offense that he played in last season as a reason why he’s been able to adjust quickly to the NFL.
“Obviously, I want to be perfect,” said Aguilar. “And I have a lot of little details that I’ve gotta keep striving to be perfect at. The passing game, I mean, it is what it is. I go out there and just feel the open guy and just stick to my rules. Kind of falling over from Tennessee and the pass game there kind of helped me out here. The feel of finding space with the route concepts that we have. Shout out Tennessee.”
Aguilar has spoken several times this offseason about how Tennessee’s offense was more pro-style last season.
“Honestly, I think the offense in general, if you go back and watch film, we went a little less option game (in 2025),” said Aguilar in February. “A lot more pro-style offense [with] pure progression reads and things like that. So, I think the offense that we ran this year was different from the past few years. And I’m excited for this journey and these next steps. And [I’m] prepared [because of] the way they threw me in there, in this offense, and kind of switched it all around.”
The Vols haven’t had any issues landing top offensive recruits in recent years (QB Faizon Brandon, WR Mike Matthews, WR TK Keys, RB David Gabriel Georges, just to name a few), so it seems the message is being heard by young players.
Aguilar, by the way, also said he’s excited to watch Tennessee play this fall.
“They’re looking really good,” said Aguilar of the Vols. “I can’t wait to see how they go out there [and play]. Those are my guys. Coach Heup, Joey (Halzle), Lando (Landry Jones), Jared (Peery) — all those guys are my guys. So, shout out to Tennessee. I can’t wait to see them this year.”
