Buccaneers get called out by Jaguars’ two-time Pro Bowler and it should fire them up to get some payback in joint practice
The Buccaneers know they didn’t perform at a high level against the Jaguars in Tuesday’s joint practice. Now they have even more reason to play well on Wednesday after Josh-Hines Allen’s social media post.
There were a few moments where things got pretty heated between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Jacksonville Jaguars in Tuesday’s joint practice and Jags’ two-time Pro Bowl pass rusher Josh Hines-Allen stoked the flames even more after everything ended.
“I keep seeing these one on one rushes from Tampa bay, those good rushes but the way we was doing them boys on that other field. MAN!!!!,” Hines-Allen posted on X.
He’s mostly referring to the work he put in against Buccaneers tackle Luke Goedeke, but at the same time, reports stated Baker Mayfield and the offense had a tough day, overall. Especially in the final two-minute drill where Mayfield threw an errant pass that went directly into the hands of Antonio Johnson.
Those on-site marked it as a very unusual play that had to be the result of a miscommunication, because there was no Buccaneers receiver in the area. Only Johnson was there to catch the ball.
Regardless, Hines-Allen’s comments should give the Buccaneers an even bigger chip on their shoulder heading into Wednesday’s joint practice. Mayfield and Chris Godwin Jr. had already lit a fire under their teammates by calling out the overall effort and if this team wants to be the mean, nasty crew it has said it wants to be all offseason then it’s time for everyone to step up and make Hines-Allen eat his words.
“If this was a full game I don’t think we would have came out on the the winning side of it,” Mayfield told reporters after practice. “So, [it was] just a little eye-opening. [I’ve] got to get back and watch the tape. You know, it’s never as good or as bad as you think it is. But I think from from my standpoint, they out-physicald us, and that’s that’s never what you want to have.
“(It) doesn’t matter who we have out there. You want guys that are going to do their very best to be the more physical team and want it more, and I don’t know if we did that today.”
Honestly, Hines-Allen bragging about winning preseason reps is a bit much, but hey, football is a game and this is part of it. We haven’t heard if he beat Tristan Wirfs on any reps, but that would certainly be something to brag about and would frankly be a semi-compliment to Wirfs.
Either way, we’ll see how much fire the Buccaneers come out with on Wednesday and if they can even things out on the practice field before Friday’s kickoff.
