The Tampa Bay Buccaneers didn’t have the best day of practice on Tuesday and Rueben Bain Jr.’s injury doesn’t add anything positive heading into Wednesday’s session.

Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Rueben Bain Jr. suffered an AC joint injury while practicing against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The good news is it’s considered to be “nothing serious” and he’s expected to be OK by Week 1. However, it’s still something to monitor as the next couple of weeks unfold before the season-opener against the Cincinnati Bengals.

How long will take Rueben Bain Jr. to recover from his injury?

It all depends on the severity of the sprain, and I’m sure we’ll find out details soon enough. Regardless, per motionorthodontics.com, a Grade 1 sprain takes about 1-2 weeks to fully heal. A Grade 2 sprain takes 3-6 weeks.

A Grade 3 sprain takes 6-12 and a Grade 4 sprain takes 4-6 months after surgery, but both of those involve separation and it doesn’t sound like Bain Jr.’s injury is that severe. The Buccaneers may play it safe and get an MRI done, which makes sense. Hopefully Todd Bowles can give some insight on the situation when he talks to reporters after Wednesday’s practice.

If Rueben Bain Jr. had to suffer an injury at any point during training camp, this is the ideal time. He’s put in plenty of good work over the offseason and was unlikely to play in the preseason finale on Friday, anyway.

Now, he gets about two-and-a-half weeks of rest leading up to the Bengals matchup. If I were the Buccaneers, I’d certainly play it safe and just let him take it easy until Sunday, September 13.

Does this open the door for a guy like Chris Braswell (or others) to make the roster?

Right now, I’d say no based on what we’re hearing. Granted, things could change if Bain Jr. does undergo an MRI and it shows more damage than initially thought. At the same time, Bain Jr. could’ve already underwent the MRI. We just simply don’t know, right now.

Either way, it’s fine to breathe a sigh of relief. We’ll include more updates if or when they come in.
