The Miami Dolphins have put two veterans on notice with Jon-Eric Sullivan’s latest trade
The Miami Dolphins have found a buyer for wide receiver Tutu Atwell.
The Miami Dolphins have, officially, put Jaylen Wright and Ollie Gordon II on notice. The Dolphins have agreed to terms on a trade this afternoon and will ship out veteran wide receiver Tutu Atwell as a part of the deal.
The trade, which is with the Los Angeles Rams, sends Atwell out before roster cuts. Miami likely gets something here for a player that wasn’t going to make the cut. That, in and of itself, is worth recognition. But consider the piece coming back, too. There’s a firm message being sent here, as the Miami Dolphins are acquiring second-year running back Jarquez Hunter. He’ll now push Ollie Gordon II and Jaylen Wright for playing time being De’Von Achane.

Hunter arrives in Miami as a second-year running back and brings low tread on his tires thanks to the Rams’ monster rushing combo of Kyren Williams and Blake Corum in 2025. Hunter, who the Rams targeted aggressively in the 2025 NFL Draft, was a potential solution to the team’s lack of explosive runs in 2024. Instead, he required time and NFL seasoning. He’ll now get a chance to test his mettle in the Dolphins’ backfield as a potential push for the RB2 spot.
Neither veteran that’s been vying for the role between Jaylen Wright and Ollie Gordon II have managed to separate from one another in the battle for that spot this summer. Instead, ball security issues have created frustrating lows — and Gordon II was set for a portion of the team’s first preseason contest for a post-snap personal foul penalty, too.
The question now is how quickly Hunter can get up to speed. The Dolphins certainly have the RB1 position on lockdown with star De’Von Achane. But for a team that wants to “run the shit out of the ball” in 2026, a second back capable of shouldering the workload would go a long way in offering responsible load management for Achane. I’m sure Miami’s management would love to see Hunter become that guy. But either way, the pressure’s on behind Achane in the backfield. It’s time for someone to step up — the newcomer or otherwise.
