The Buffalo Bills are set to open the 2026 NFL season with a tough matchup against the Houston Texans.
Much of the NFL is doing something behind the scenes that shows exactly how Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen is viewed around the league.
According to The Athletic, Allen is so widely respected in the NFL that multiple teams have put together highlight reels of some of his best plays.
“Quarterback Josh Allen is so widely respected that there are coaches and executives around the league who have highlight packages built of his most improbable plays,” noted The Athletic’s Jeff Howe. “Of course, there’s a practical use for that scouting material when they have to prepare for Buffalo, but Allen has such a habit of making the impossible look routine that there’s almost an embedded element within the competition of, ‘What more could we do?’”
What’s the reason for this?
Well, as Howe pointed out, there’s a scouting element to it.
But also as Howe pointed out, and I think this is the bigger reason, sometimes a defense does all it can do and a special player, like Allen, still makes a big time play.
I think the message is that you’ve gotta respect Allen and his playmaking ability and understand that sometimes he’s just going to be the best player on the field. You tip your cap and move on to the next play, instead of getting frustrated and dwelling on the outcome of the previous play.
Whatever the case, it’s certainly a huge sign of respect for Allen and what he can do with the ball in his hands.
