Georgia Tech makes it clear how they feel about Vols QB Faizon Brandon and Tennessee’s wide receivers
The Tennessee Vols will face off against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in Week 2 of the college football season.
If you’re a fan of trash talk and you’re a Tennessee fan, then you’re probably disappointed this week as there hasn’t been any trash talk between the Vols and Georgia Tech ahead of Saturday night’s matchup in Atlanta.
Tennessee isn’t looking past Georgia Tech just because the Yellow Jackets had a rough loss to Colorado in Week 1. The Vols know Georgia Tech is better than what they showed against the Buffaloes, and they’re preparing for the Yellow Jackets’ best shot.
“I mean, yeah, they lost, but it was the first game,” said Vols defensive lineman Nathan Robinson on Monday. “Mistakes are going to happen. We had our fair share of them (against Furman). They’re going to clean that stuff up.
“So we’ve got to be ready for their best, and I expect to get their best. We talked about it in the team meeting room this morning. It sounds like their head coach challenged their O-line. So again, we’re just going to be ready for their best, and we’re going to have to bring our best.”
And Georgia Tech, meanwhile, has done nothing but compliment Tennessee all week.
Yellow Jackets safety Tae Harris praised Vols true freshman quarterback Faizon Brandon and Tennessee’s wide receiver group on Wednesday.
“We’ve got to come out with our head on fire,” said Harris. “They’ve got a big true freshman quarterback back there and he can sling it, so hats off to those dudes. It’ll be a good test for us this week, for all of us. They’ve got a good squad, they’ve got a good group of receivers.”
“We just want to go out here and get the job done. Just put on for the city and make our fans happy and exceed our expectations. And play to our standard. … I’m sure it’ll be a big test. They’ve got a big group of receivers — those guys can run and have big size. So we just want to go out there and play to the best of our ability.”
Harris, interestingly, grew up around several of Tennessee’s players in the Atlanta area, including Travis Smith Jr, Mike Matthews, and Ty Redmond. Redmond, though, is the only one Harris has spent much time talking to lately.
“I haven’t really talked to the offensive guys,” said Harris. “The only dude I’ve really talked to is Ty Redmond. Me and Ty were on the same All-Star team in the 10th grade. He’s one of their starting corners, he’s a big dude. I’m sure he will have a good game.”
It should be a crazy environment in Bobby Dodd Stadium on Saturday night. Tennessee will need to settle into the game early, avoid costly mistakes, and keep the crowd out of the game as much as possible.
