Seattle Seahawks’ 2026 NFL season takes a disastrous turn just six plays into Week 1 tilt against New England Patriots
Seattle Seahawks QB Sam Darnold was injured just six plays into the 2026 NFL season. He’s currently questionable to return with a hip injury.
Update: Seahawks QB Sam Darnold has been ruled OUT for the remainder of the game due to his hip injury.
The Seattle Seahawks’ 2026 NFL season took a disastrous turn just minutes into their Week 1 game against the New England Patriots.
After just six plays on offense, Seattle Seahawks QB Sam Darnold was sacked on third-and-6. He was slammed down into the turf after the pocket collapsed. It was a seemingly innocuous play, but following the replay, Darnold can be seen limping off the field. He didn’t initially seek out help from the team training staff, but eventually made his way over to the blue injury tent for examination.
Darnold was eventually taken off the field for further evaluation. The team designated Darnold as questionable to return with a hip injury. Sideline reporter Kaylee Hartung says that he is getting X-Rays on the injury.

Darnold took 27 sacks during the 2025 NFL season. He recorded 323 completions for 4,048 yards, 25 touchdowns and 14 interceptions.
Seahawks’ backup quarterback situation
Veteran backup QB Drew Lock entered the game in place of Darnold on the second drive. He completed one pass for eight yards on said drive. Jalen Milroe is inactive but available as the emergency third quarterback for Seattle. He could come into the game only if Drew Lock suffered an injury and was unable to play.
This is hardly how Seattle wanted to open the season. It also casts a shadow over their Super Bowl LX win and banner night.
