‘He has said nothing to any of his friends’ – Paul Finebaum may have figured out Lane Kiffin’s latest move
There’s always some drama when Lane Kiffin is involved, and that’s the case a LSU this week.
As if there wasn’t enough drama surrounding the big showdown between LSU and Ole Miss, things were kicked up a notch on Wednesday night when Tigers starting quarterback Sam Leavitt was listed as doubtful on the SEC injury report.
There’s a lot of skepticism in college football that Leavitt will actually miss the game. Many believe this is just an act of gamesmanship from LSU head coach Lane Kiffin.
ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported on Thursday morning that no one on the Ole Miss coaching staff is convinced that Leavitt will actually miss the game on Saturday.
Paul Finebaum goes scorched earth on Lane Kiffin…again
It feels like this is an every week thing, but ESPN’s Paul Finebaum went scorched earth on Kiffin, yet again, on Thursday morning.
Finebaum doesn’t think Kiffin is being truthful by listing Leavitt on the injury report. And Finebaum thinks that in large part because Kiffin hasn’t mentioned Leavitt having an injury to any of the people close to him.
“This is Lane Kiffin spitting in the eyes of the commissioner of the Southeastern Conference, Greg Sankey,” said Finebaum on ESPN’s Get Up. “Like in the NFL, this injury report is supposed to be taken seriously, and he is thumbing his nose at it like a little kid, throwing a spitball at one of his classmates and hoping the teacher doesn’t catch him.”
“If this was serious, and I don’t have any independent knowledge, but I’m just trying to give you a hypothesis, if it was serious and your biggest star in the biggest game for your team was possibly out, don’t you think we would have heard something else from Lane Kiffin?” continued Finebaum. “He will speak to the media tonight through his radio show, but he has said nothing to any of his friends — he has said nothing to anyone. So therefore you have to be skeptical. And if proven wrong, fine. … This is Lane Kiffin we’re talking about. This is not somebody who tells the truth, like most people as part of their daily life. He is narcissistic, he misleads, and if he is misleading over something like this it is very serious.”
Finebaum was a little over the top, but he makes a good point. Kiffin isn’t good at keeping things quiet. If there was serious concern about Leavitt, you would think those close to him would’ve known before the quarterback’s surprise inclusion on the injury report.
It’ll be interesting to see if Leavitt’s status is changed on Thursday night when the updated report drops.
