The LSU Tigers will host the Alabama Crimson Tide on Saturday in a de facto College Football Playoff elimination game.

The loser, which will have three losses, could still get into the playoff, but they’ll no longer control their own destiny.

Suffice it to say, it’s a massive game for both teams.

LSU head coach Lane Kiffin isn’t happy that it’s not a night game (kickoff is set for 2:30 PM CT), but it should still be a wild atmosphere regardless of whether the sun is out when the game starts.

Former Tennessee offensive coordinator David Cutcliffe shares memories of playing in Baton Rouge

Former Tennessee Vols offensive coordinator David Cutcliffe, who was also the head coach at Ole Miss and Duke, said on Tuesday during an appearance on The George Plaster Show that Tiger Stadium is arguably the toughest place to play in college football.

Cutcliffe said it’s “close to dangerous.”

“I enjoy watching those games in Baton Rouge,” said Cutcliffe. “I always enjoyed going down there coaching — I know that sounds crazy. And I’m kind of like Coach Kiffin, I’m a little disappointed it’s not on Saturday night. It feels like that’s what it should be.

“No offense to anyone else. I’ve heard loud, and all of our stadiums (in the SEC) are great, and the fans are all great. But when it really gets fever-pitched down there, it’s close to dangerous. I’ve walked out on that field pregame as a head coach, and they can say they don’t, but they prodded that dang tiger, and he hit that cage and it scared the living heck out of me.”

“One time, as an assistant, I was with Phillip (Fulmer),” added Cutcliffe. “We went down there, and they’re crazy. I mean, they had a Big Mac box, a couple of them, on fishing poles, and as Phillip is walking in, they’re hanging them over Phillip and trying to get him to bite.

“And I will say this: if they threw a whiskey bottle, it was empty because they’d have drank every drop by then.”

There’s certainly nothing quite like a football game in Tiger Stadium. I’m sure LSU fans will be at their best when Alabama visits on Saturday afternoon.
