Las Vegas Raiders get terrible news before their Week 2 game vs. the Chargers, but they may not be feeling as bad as you think
The Las Vegas Raiders will likely be without Brock Bowers on Sunday against the Chargers, but they like what they saw last week.
The Las Vegas Raiders have some bad news as they enter Week 2 against division rival Los Angeles Chargers. Brock Bowers, the league’s best tight end, may have to wait another week to make his season debut. On Friday, he was listed as doubtful.
This means that the team may have to rely on Michael Mayer again. And, hey, that’s why they just paid him. Sure, that’s not the exact reason why. They paid him because he’s an amazing run blocker. And they are still predicting he’ll only gets better. Either way, it’s still unclear whether he’ll play. But Wednesday’s practice brought bad news.
Before practice, head coach Klint Kubiak told everyone Bowers will not be participating. Cornerback Darien Porter, injured in the Week 1 game, also isn’t practicing. On Thursday, it was much the same. Friday came and he did participate in practice, but was limited. He’s listed as doubtful, and Porter is listed as out.
But there are a few reasons why they may not be as upset this week.
Raiders have to feel like Week 2 vs. the Chargers is very winnable
Last week, Los Angeles lost to the Arizona Cardinals in an embarrassing showing. Their team still looks pretty pitiful. Justin Herbert isn’t playing well. The offensive line isn’t great, and they have injuries of their own.
Sure, the Raiders could be without the league’s best tight end. But the Chargers have wide receiver Ladd McConkey questionable, offensive lineman Trey Pipkins out, and defensive back Elijah Molden out.
So, the Raiders have to be feeling confident. They see a team that is technically at home, but Vegas has an advantage since it’s in Los Angeles. And Vegas has to feel like this game is super winnable after Week 1. Plus, the Chargers have their own injuries, too. Not to mention, Ashton Jeanty was a full participant in practice and looks ready to go for another potential big week.
