The Lions are wasting no time looking for secondary help after Buffalo, with 2 veteran defensive backs coming in for workouts Monday

Detroit is bringing in two experienced defensive backs for workouts Monday as injuries continue to test an already-thin secondary. One of them spent time with the Lions last season.

The Detroit Lions walked out of their Week 2 tilt with the Buffalo Bills kind of roughed up. Avonte Maddox left early, and Rock Ya-Sin also had an injury. The Lions are bringing in a couple of veteran defensive backs on Monday to work out, per ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler. Here’s what we know about them:

Jalen Mills

Mills was actually with the Lions for a short time last season. He played three games for Detroit after they picked him up after the Texans released him. He had one pass breakup when he was here.

Mills has been in the league since 2016 and won a Super Bowl as a starter with the Eagles in 2018. He would be a depth player in Detroit and not a starter. But at this point, the Lions could use some depth to get them through the next few weeks until they can get Brian Branch and Kerby Joseph back. Something that should happen after the bye week.

Jordan Fuller

Another former Super Bowl winner with the Rams in 2021. Brad Holmes scouted Fuller before the Rams drafted him in the 2020 NFL Draft. He was a starter there for four seasons. He started for the Panthers in 2024, but dealt with injuries all season. In 2025, in 2025 he again dealt with injuries while with the Falcons, and released him in December before the season was over. Again, both of these options should be looked at as depth help rather than potential starters. It’s not like there’s a bunch of starters sitting out there waiting for jobs.
