Dan Campbell explains why Detroit Lions benched Christian Mahogany against the Dolphins, but leaves one question unanswered
Christian Mahogany was dressed and available but didn’t play an offensive snap against Miami. Dan Campbell has now explained the decision, although questions remain about what happened and whether Mahogany will return to the starting lineup.
If you didn’t notice during the Detroit Lions’ win over the Miami Dolphins on Sunday that they were doing it without one of their best players starting, despite being fully healthy and playing on field goals, then you were blind to be frank.
For some reason, Christian Mahogany was not out there, and nobody really seemed to know why. He was dressed, he had his helmet on, he played on field goal attempts as we mentioned, but he did not start or play on offense, and Miles Frazier struggled mightily in his stead. What happened?
Dan Campbell gives a brief explanation for why Mahogany didn’t play
“Well, that was team rules; it was really that simple,” Campbell said. Miles deserved his opportunity, so he got it. Doesn’t mean it stays that way; that was the way it was gonna be today.”
There you go. Campbell confirmed it was a disciplinary thing with Mahogany. He did not say what team rule was broken, and we’ll probably never know unless Mahogany tells the media or it just gets out there. Teams aren’t required to tell anyone about their disciplinary measures. The Lions definitely need him back against the Patriots. We’ll see what happens.
