Former Tennessee player who made fans angry after transferring showed up to Neyland Stadium to support the Vols against Texas
Maybe he’ll be back in the good graces of Tennessee Volunteers fans now.
A former Tennessee player who made some controversial comments after transferring away from Rocky Top a couple of years ago was back in Knoxville on Saturday to support the Vols against Texas.
Former Tennessee offensive lineman Gerald Mincey, who started his career at Florida, spent his final college season at Kentucky after spending two seasons (2022 and 2023) with the Vols.
Mincey was in orange and white on Saturday in Knoxville.
Mincey was even spotted at the Vol walk before the game.
The former Vol went back and forth with Tennessee fans after transferring to Kentucky a couple of years ago thanks to some things he posted on social media.
Mincey, though, eventually clarified that he was just having fun with some trash talk.
“It’s fun, football, you gotta have fun,” said Mincey in 2024. “Some people get a little rowdy, talk a little trash here and there. But those are still my guys, they’re still my brothers. Like Tennessee, they know what it is. They’re my guys. Same thing with Florida.”Â
Mincey had some memorable moments at Tennessee, and it’s clear he still has love for the Vols.
I don’t know if fans will be quick to give him the “VFL” label (there’s a big debate about transfer players and being VFLs), but they can at least appreciate that he was in town to support Tennessee in a huge game this week.
