Penn State Football OC Taylor Mouser gets real and authentic when it comes to what the offense is missing
The Penn State Nittany Lions need to fix their offense, and it’s clear they desperately miss Koby Howard and a strong run game.
The Penn State Nittany Lions are in a position they likely didn’t expect to be in. When this team started 3-0, the vibes were through the roof. Now, they have lost three straight and are 3-3.
Of course, when the schedule came out and everyone saw how soft it was, the fan base got a bit happy. But when conference play started, Penn State started to look like the team they actually are. The team had three very bad non-conference opponents, so they looked much better than they are. Now they are stuck trying to fix everything, including their offense.
Penn State OC Taylor Mouser is lost on his offense
The Nittany Lions are now one of the Big Ten’s worst rushing teams, averaging only 149 rushing yards per game. Of course, some of that is help from their first three games. Heck, they have 114 rushing yards in their last two games combined. So, the run game clearly hasn’t been working, and it’s not even because they’re playing elite defenses.
“We’re a run game without an identity, and that’s the reality of the situation,” OC Taylor Mouser said on Tuesday.
If you can’t run the ball against USC, a historically bad defense over the last five years or so, and against Northwestern, then there’s something wrong. And it doesn’t help that they are desperately missing some outside playmakers.
“I think about Koby [Howard] coming back a lot,” Mouser said.
It’s now very obvious that Howard is the best player on the offense. Chase Sowell just passed Howard in receiving yards. Mind you, Howard has only played three games total. So they have issues everywhere, and Mouser isn’t afraid to admit it out loud. The bad thing is, their season may already be a lost cause in terms of College Football Playoff chances. But they can build on this.
