The latest NFL blockbuster only reinforces an uncomfortable truth about the Miami Dolphins’ 2026 rebuild
Fire sales across the NFL this past week have the Miami Dolphins looking far from a lock to land the top pick in the 2027 NFL Draft.
What a wild and crazy week it has been in the NFL to close the month of October. For the Miami Dolphins, the week started off right with a win over the New York Jets.
But the days that have passed since have only helped to reinforce what Sunday’s win hinted at: perhaps these Miami Dolphins aren’t as bad as the national media would have you believe. Now don’t get me wrong: Miami still has their flaws. They still have their limits. And they’re probably only going to win a handful of games this season. But relative to what is happening elsewhere in the NFL? Miami doesn’t have it all that bad — and it’s bad news for your hopes and dreams of marquee pick next April. The latest development deals the heaviest blow, too.
Your hopes for the Miami Dolphins to land atop the 2027 NFL Draft order are fading fast

In what has been a completely insane week of NFL trades, the latest deal proves to be the biggest — and there are implications for the Miami Dolphins. The Dolphins will play the Indianapolis Colts this season — who have shipped out DeForest Buckner and Quenton Nelson. But the Tennessee Titans? They just traded All-Pro defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons to the Chicago Bears for two first round picks (plus more).
The Titans? Currently 1-6 and ahead of the Miami Dolphins in the 2026 NFL Draft order.
Simmons is, by far, the team’s best player. Or at least he was. So why should the expectations hold the Titans winning much more in the way of more games the rest of the season? I’ll do you one better. The Titans organization has won 7 games…since the start of the 2024 season. Miami, amid all of their frustration over that same period of time, has won 16 games. A less talented team is selling at the deadline and the damage it would incur to “chase down” the Titans in the win column would almost assuredly spiral the momentum we’ve seen thus far from Miami.
For who, for what? Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith is quite the prize. But he’s not the only high-end football player in the 2027 NFL Draft.
That’s before we even mention the Indianapolis Colts, who may end up selling off several other pieces of their roster over the next week. Wide receiver Josh Downs has already requested a trade. And Pro Bowl running back Jonathan Taylor is a highly speculated upon player, too. Some teams ultimately decide to tap out. The 2026 Miami Dolphins aren’t likely to be among them, while the team is also positioned to get better throughout the season amid all the youth in the lineup. That makes for bad news for anyone who decided in March that anything other than the league’s worst record this season would do.
Because right now? Miami is looking far from the worst or most dysfunctional franchise in the league despite their dead cap and inexperience. Sorry if you were hoping otherwise.
