Well, as we discussed on Monday, it was only a matter of time. The Alabama Crimson Tide have officially dismissed legacy cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick Jr., ending a turbulent stretch for one of the young defensive backs Alabama had high hopes for.

Crimson Tide coach Kalen DeBoer released a statement on the decision, which Charlie Potter shared on X.

“After gathering more information on the situation, Dre Kirkpatrick Jr. will no longer be a part of our program. He did not live up to the standards and expectations that I have set for this team. And our players.”

How Dre Kirkpatrick Jr. went from suspension to dismissal

Alabama suspended Kirkpatrick just hours before kickoff against Texas A&M on homecoming. At the time, no one knew why.

Then news surfaced over the weekend, via public records, that Kirkpatrick had been arrested in connection to an alleged doxxing incident. Now we have a clearer picture of what led to his arrest. Nick Kelly posted the details from court records on X:

> “Dre Kirkpatrick Jr. is alleged to have messaged a UAPD officer on October 20th and to have posted a photo of that officer’s family on Facebook, per court records. That officer was involved in Kirkpatrick’s 2025 arrest.”

So DeBoer and the Crimson Tide really only had one move to make here. This marked the second time Kirkpatrick had been suspended and the second time he had been arrested. Once the details of the allegations came to light, the situation went from concerning to untenable for the program.

The pattern matters just as much as the latest incident. To me, it continues to show a lack of judgment, and DeBoer has made it clear that he won’t tolerate that from anyone on his roster, regardless of last name.

Alabama loses valuable depth in the secondary

This one stings for Alabama on the field, too.

As we noted when the suspension first broke on Saturday, Kirkpatrick would have essentially been out there as a starter against Texas A&M. Red Morgan exited the game early, and Kirkpatrick was the next man up in the secondary. That was a golden opportunity for the young cornerback to show the growth he had made, both on and off the field.

Instead, he went from that opportunity to no longer being part of the program in a span of under 48 hours. That’s a stunning turn of events, and it’s hard to overstate how quickly it all came apart.

For the Crimson Tide, the next step is figuring out how to absorb the loss of depth at cornerback. Alabama has to lean on the players already in the room, and the coaching staff will need some young names to step up in a hurry, especially with Morgan’s status after Saturday’s game still to be seen.

It’s a pretty crazy story, and a sad one. Kirkpatrick arrived in Tuscaloosa carrying a famous name and plenty of expectations. Alabama believed in him enough to give him another chance after his first arrest. Now, that chance is gone, and the Crimson Tide will turn the page without a player who once looked like part of the future in the secondary.
