Latest intel from huge recruiting weekend at Alabama should have the Crimson Tide feeling better about its chances with 5-star WR
The Alabama Crimson Tide hosted one of the best players in the 2027 class over the weekend, and the staff certainly has to feel much better about their standing following his reaction to the official visit in Tuscaloosa.
The Alabama Crimson Tide held its first major visit weekend of the summer over the last few days, and the Crimson Tide got off to a hot start.
Alabama secured a commitment from four-star running back Nigel Newkirk, a key target among the running backs that Alabama is honing in on for the 2027 cycle. But Alabama also hosted the No. 1 WR in the 2027 class, Monshun Sales. How did that go? Well, let’s take a look.
Monshun Sales 2025 stats
- 37 receptions.
- 794 yards.
- 9 receiving touchdowns.
Monshun Sales enjoys his time during an official visit with Alabama Crimson Tide
Sales plays his high school football in Indiana, but the 5-star hails from the great state of Alabama. He was predicted to join the Indiana Hoosiers after taking an official visit with the reigning national champions back in April, but Sales was quick to shut the noise down.
Then came the trip to Tuscaloosa over the weekend, where Sales had some fun on Twitter-X, while Steve Wiltfong shared photos of Sales and his family during the visit.
Can Alabama actually secure Monshun Sales?
Indiana has a very compelling case, as it just trounced Alabama en route to its first national championship in the sport of football. They are the primary competition for Sales during this recruitment, and being that Sales lives there, they have a backyard advantage.
The recent successes of 2026 NFL Draft picks Omar Cooper Jr and Elijah Sarratt also help the Hoosiers. But here’s where Alabama comes in: everything I just mentioned that Indiana has in this race, Alabama has, and more of.
Alabama is Sales’ birth state, and his family is from there. Alabama won its first national title 100 years before Indiana won their first. Alabama had two WRs, let alone players taken in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft. Indiana just had two players go round 1 during a singular draft for the first time.
That’s the pitch to Sales. That, and it’s the Crimson Tide who have secured quarterbacks of the future with Keelon Russell, Jett Thomalla, Elijah Haven, and Trent Seaborn. I’m sure that’s the pitch that was made at the Capstone this weekend; now it’s about seeing if that pitch pays off.
