Florida Gators learn the date of a massive rivalry game, and it could change their playoff future
Tuesday afternoon brought news of the Florida Gators big rivalry game officially being scheduled.
The Florida Gators end every regular season against the Florida State Seminoles. This past season was really good to the Gators, as they destroyed the Seminoles 40-21 thanks to the Jadan Baugh game.
Being the last game of the season, it can often decide if a team will have the opportunity to play for a national championship. The 1996 game where the Seminoles upset the Gators made it a little harder, but only until the Gators slaughtered them 52-20 in the Sugar Bowl.
Florida Gators will play Florida State Seminoles on Black Friday
Being that the final game of the season is over Thanksgiving weekend, it’s usually played on Saturday afternoon. That has changed in recent years with more games being played on Black Friday to maximize television ratings.
The Gators will be heading to Doak Campbell to take on the Seminoles on Black Friday at 3:30 P.M. ET.
After last year, the Gators finally have their new head coach in Jon Sumrall, while the Seminoles are still stuck with Mike Norvell. This could be the end of the line for Norvell, especially with how well recruiting has gone for the Gators.
The Gators have won the last two games over the Seminoles, evening up their last 10 matchups at 5-5. Overall, the Gators have won five of the last 10 games, and lead the series 39-28-2. Along with that, the Gators have a winning record on the road at 15-14-1.
It might annoy some in the fanbase that it’s not on Saturday, but it isn’t the first time.
