Miami Hurricanes may still have a chance to land the biggest fish in the 2027 recruiting pond, but they’ll have to pull off a coup to do it

Miami is still in play for the nation’s top recruit, and they’ll have to continue their magic with flipping recruits to land him.

The Miami Hurricanes have put together quite the impressive recruiting class for the 2027 cycle. Mario Cristobal has landed potential impact playmakers on both sides of the ball.

As things stand, the Hurricanes have the No. 2 class nationally in both On3 Sports/Rivals and 247 Sports’ team rankings. The Hurricanes are also currently the only program to have more than two five-star commitments in both the On3/Rivals (3) and 247 Sports (4) rankings.

There’s always room for more, and, according to 247 Sports, Miami remains in play for the biggest defensive name in the entire 2027 class in five-star EDGE DJ Jacobs (Roswell, GA), who has been committed to Ohio State since late December. Jacobs is the No. 1 overall player in 247 Sports’ rankings for 2027.

Miami still not out of contention for Ohio State commit DJ Jacobs

Jordan Hill of Dawgs 247 noted a gap between Georgia’ NIL offer and other programs. He also believes Miami would be best positioned to get Jacobs to change his mind if he’s considering other options outside of the Buckeyes.

“Miami is the team I believe is best positioned for Jacobs if he decides to reconsider his Ohio State commitment,” 247 Sports’ Grant Hughes quotes Hill as saying.

While some might say that flipping a commitment is a tough move to pull off, the Hurricanes have excelled at it so far this year. They’ve flipped five-star CB Donte Wright (Long Beach, CA) from Georgia, along with five-star DL Jaiden Bryant (Columbia, SC) from LSU and four-star CB Ai’King Hall (Dothan, AL) from Oregon.

Miami won’t be undercut when it comes to NIL offers, and the development on the field is currently second to none, with Hall of Famer Jason Taylor churning out a pair of first round picks in Rueben Bain, Jr. and Akheem Mesidor this year.

We’ll find out if Cristobal, Taylor, and company can pull off their biggest shocker yet and add Jacobs to what’s become a potentially special group of players coming to Coral Gables.
