When it comes to the 2027 recruiting class for the Notre Dame football program, one of the biggest overall targets on the board is Chicago (Ill.) Mount Carmel wide receiver Quentin Burrell.

A local talent and an elite football player, head coach Marcus Freeman and the Fighting Irish have been high on Burrell for quite some time. There has never been a question about whether the Chicago native has been a priority.

With a long list of top programs pursuing Burrell, this recruitment won’t be easy, but the Irish are in a great spot. Mike Singer, who is a recruiting insider for Blue and Gold Illustrated, seems to agree that Notre Dame is sitting good. Singer has logged a prediction for Burrell to land with the Fighting Irish.

Whenever there is local talent like Burrell, who is also a great academic and cultural fit, Notre Dame football needs to do its best to close on them. In Burrell’s case, he is a big-bodied boundary receiver who plays a role that the Irish need more and more of. If they do close on him, it would be a monumental victory for the Irish staff.

Quentin Burrell’s recruiting background

Burrell is considered a four-star and a top-100 overall player by all major recruiting platforms. On the 247 Sports Composite ranking, Burrell is rated as the No. 46 overall player, the No. 8 wide receiver, and the No. 3 player in the state of Illinois for the 2027 recruiting class. Burrell is one of the headliners in an outstanding crop of talent from the state in his cycle.

If you aren’t impressed by Burrell’s recruiting rankings, then you will be with his offer list. Some of the top programs that have offered the Chicago star include the Fighting Irish, Georgia, Ohio State, Alabama, Michigan, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Penn State, Tennessee, Miami, Indiana, Auburn, Nebraska, South Carolina, Louisville, Arizona State, Iowa, Missouri, NC State, Missouri, Illinois, Maryland, UNC, Vanderbilt, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Michigan State, Minnesota, Kansas State, Northwestern, Syracuse, Purdue, Stanford, and Kansas, among others.

The 6-3, 175-pound pass catcher put together a fantastic sophomore season in 2024 for Mount Carmel. Burrell managed to haul in 75 receptions for 1,257 yards and 18 touchdowns during that tremendous campaign. Through five games this fall, Burrell has continued that silly production. That includes 30 receptions for 559 yards and 10 scores.
