The Ohio State Buckeyes were able to make the NCAA Tournament for the first time in four seasons, but they were unable to make anything of it. Ohio State was bounced in the opening round by TCU, 66-64, and now they’re left needing to build off an important season.

Ohio State had to make the postseason for the sake of the program trying to get back on track. Now, the Buckeyes need to show they can get to the tournament consistently and even make a run at times.

Being honest here, the Buckeyes need strong roster improvements to keep growing. Ohio State will need to put forward a strong push with NIL in the transfer portal coming up, and continuing to improve on the recruiting trail is key.

Jake Diebler makes a strong statement on what’s ahead for Ohio State

On his weekly radio show on Monday, Diebler made a promising statement that’ll correlate exactly with what Ohio State fans want to hear.

“There’s a lot of good happening behind the scenes to set us up to be successful from a roster construction point,” Diebler stated. “It’s been a battle to get to this point but I’m excited about the progress we’ve made …”

Much better place today than we were this time last year when it comes to building our roster.”

Ohio State will lose its all-time leading scorer Bruce Thornton to graduation, as well as starting center Christoph Tilly. The Buckeyes are going to need a big man and guard to play alongside John Mobley Jr.

The first thing Ohio State will have to do is retain key players, which is where NIL will come into play as well. The Buckeyes need to keep Mobley, Amare Bynum, and Devin Royal in the picture if they can.

Ohio State finished the season 21-13 with two straight losses between the Big Ten and NCAA Tournaments. How the Buckeyes go about the next month when the portal opens on April 7 will play a large part in where the team goes next season.
