Who could have guessed that Texas’ entry into the SEC would generate discussion in Congress?

Rep. Mike Collins, a Republican who represents Georgia’s 10th district, took the House floor on Tuesday to honor Georgia’s victory in the SEC championship and have a little fun at UT’s expense.

“Mr. Speaker, I rise today to demand that Texas be sent back to the Big 12 and to congratulate the 2024 SEC champions, the Georgia Bulldogs,” Collins said.

“After the Dawgs’ historic win over the Longhorns in the SEC championship over the weekend, which, by the way, was the second time Georgia has beat Texas this season, the Dawgs have proved without a doubt that Texas just ain’t ready for the SEC ball.”

On a certain level, this is genius trolling. Collins spoke with a team photo of the Bulldogs propped up on an easel. Again, all of this happened in the United States Congress.

“What an incredible win, Mr. Speaker,” Collins added. “Not only did the Dawgs absolutely smoke Texas in overtime, but they did it with class, style and a backup quarterback.”

Feels like by this point, Collins was just getting warmed up.

“This is the 15th SEC championship in Georgia history, and the Dawgs aren't done yet,” Collins added. “As we move into the playoffs, don’t let off the gas. You’ve got a national championship to bring back to Athens, and don't let anyone stop you.

“Mr. Speaker, go Dawgs! And I yield back.”
