The Detroit Lions are making a significant move today. For the first time ever, the team will honor a former player with a statue. Lions legend Barry Sanders will be the deserving recipient of this honor.

Deserving he definitely is. Sanders isn't just the greatest Lion to ever play, he's one of the greatest players to ever play football period. Sanders ran for 15,269 yards and 99 touchdowns for the Lions.

His highlights are his 2,000 yard season that won him the league MVP in 1997, six All-Pro team honors, 10 Pro Bowls, the NFL Rookie of the Year award and of course, his induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Now, this is a private ceremony, so the public will not be able to take part in it, but you can still watch it. The Lions will be playing the ceremony at 5:30 ET today on their YouTube page. You can watch it right here if you want.
