It didn’t take long for ESPN to notice one thing that’s “hard to miss” about the Buffalo Bills this season.

Buffalo opened the 2026 NFL season with a huge 36-31 road win over the Houston Texans. It was the perfect way to kick off the Joe Brady era.

And speaking of Brady, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler says it’s “hard to miss the synergy” between Brady and Bills quarterback Josh Allen.

“The synergy between Josh Allen and new coach Joe Brady is hard to miss,” noted Fowler this week. “Brady has played a big hand in streamlining things for Allen, who has reduced turnovers and — based on Sunday’s win over Houston — looks like he knows exactly where he wants to go with the ball at all times.”

“It’s early, but the signs are that Allen is only getting better, and Brady said the two can experiment, succeed and fail together play-to-play,” added Fowler. “Allen is so locked in that he didn’t bite when asked about the excitement around officially opening the $2.2 billion Highmark Stadium in earnest Thursday night. His message was clear: We have a job to do, and that’s win.”

Brady and Allen already had a good relationship since Brady served as the Bills’ offensive coordinator the last couple of seasons before taking over for Sean McDermott. Now the two can be on the same page at all times without worrying about the head coach stepping in with ideas.

It’s been a while since Brady’s had complete autonomy of an offense — it was pretty much his show at LSU in 2019 and we all remember how well that went for Joe Burrow — so this feels like a partnership that’s only going to keep getting better as the season progresses.

Putting up 36 points on the road against one of the top defenses in the NFL was certainly a good way to start the season.
