The Cincinnati Bengals added a couple more names to their injury report on Thursday. There’s reason for optimism regarding a young player set to make his season debut, and there’s concern elsewhere.

Joe Burrow limited again, but participated much more

Joe Burrow (back) was yet again listed as a limited participant in practice, but reports and clips from Thursday showed the 29-year-old quarterback doing much more on the practice field compared to Wednesday.

Wide receiver Tee Higgins told reporters after practice that Burrow was much more involved today.

Burrow set the record straight on Wednesday, calling his injury “back tightness” and any notion of him sitting out Sunday for precautionary reasons is “ridiculous.” Cincinnati is still going to be conservative with its franchise QB, and slowly ramp him up before Sunday.

If Burrow was seen throwing less than before, there would legitimate cause for concern. He’s still on track to take the field in Houston.

B.J. Hill, Samaje Perine may have new injuries

Defensive tackle B.J. Hill (achilles) has been getting rest days for a foot injury. He missed most of training camp because of it. This is the first time he’s been listed with an achilles injury. He was officially limited Wednesday.

Achilles injuries are of much concern, but it’s too early to tell if this is the case for Hill. DT Jonathan Allen, who got a rest day, is in line to out-snap Hill against the Texans like he did last Sunday.

Running back Samaje Perine (knee) did not practice Thursday due to a knee injury. If there’s a truly troubling update from practice, it’s Perine being in danger of missing Sunday’s game. The veteran RB is Cincy’s reliable complement to starter Chase Brown, and is counted on to pass protect and provide Burrow with a checkdown option in the passing game. Tahj Brooks would be next in line to take Perine’s snaps if he were to miss the game.

Defensive end Shemar Stewart (knee) went full for the second consecutive day, a strong sign he’s on track to playing for the first time this season. Stewart suffered a hyperextended knee at the beginning of training camp and missed the entirety of the preseason.

If Stewart is active, he will most likely be on a snap count. Cedric Johnson, the current No. 4 DE on the depth chart, played 19 snaps last week. Rookie Cashius Howell played 25. Stewart would have a ceiling likely right below them.
