Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell is a players coach for sure. Being that he's a former player himself, he can understand how important incentives are to players and he helped a player achieve that incentive at the end of the Lions win over the Vikings.
After C.J. Gardner-Johnson interception, the Lions just needed a first down and they could have taken a knee and walked out comfortably with a win. That's not what happened though. Josh Reynolds had two incentives to hit to get him an extra half a million for the season. He hadn't hit either one.
So Campbell and the Lions had Jared Goff target Reynolds on the last four plays of the game and they were able to get him at least one of his incentives. He need to get 36 yards to get an extra $250,000 this season. The Lions got him to 44.
Again, they did not need to do that, but Campbell and the coaching staff showed just how important their players are to them in that moment. This is why the culture is the way it is and you can believe that this will help the team come free agency time. Who wouldn't want to play for a winning team that cares about it's players?
