Lions bringing back one of their former quarterbacks to replace Teddy Bridgewater
The Lions wasted little time finding their new backup quarterback and he’s actually been in Detroit before.
On Sunday morning, Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell announced that backup quarterback Teddy Bridgewater was stepping away from the Lions. They wasted no time getting their new backup quarterback in. You might remember this guy.
The Lions are signing Joshua Dobbs
Dobbs was with the Lions in 2022 as a member of their practice squad. But the Titans poached him a few weeks later. Since then, he’s had stops with the Vikings, Browns, Cardinals (with Lions OC Drew Petzing), 49ers, and Patriots. The most notable stop was the one with the Vikings, where he started multiple games for the injured Kirk Cousins in 2023 and gained some national praise for starting in a win after having been with the team for just a couple of days.
Dobbs brings a real boom or bust ability to Detroit. He’s able to leave the pocket and do some fun things and make some plays happen, but he can also be a bit too aggressive at times. The hope for the Lions and their fans is that they never have to see him play outside of the preseason, where he’s expected to make his debut on Thursday against the Bengals.
In addition to working out Dobbs on Sunday, the Lions also worked out former Saints quarterback Jake Haener and UFL MVP Jack Plummer. We should see Dobbs joining the rest of the team for camp on Monday.
