It seemed like the Detroit Lions were set at tight end when they gave an RFA tender to Brock Wright at the beginning of March. Then the San Francisco 49ers came out of nowhere with an offer sheet for three years and $12 million.
This was a rare thing. Teams don't typically sign RFA's to offer sheets like this. It's only happened a handful of times with the last time being in 2022.
After the full five days, the Lions have decided that they are going to match Brock Wright's offer sheet and he will stay in Detroit.
This keeps a big player in a spot for the Lions and now they don't have to figure out their next move at tight end two. The Lions also retained Shane Zylstra and have James Mitchell on the roster. They're good to go at tight end.
