Jayden Reed’s scary exit

Reed hauled in a four-yard reception on the second scrimmage play of the game and took a hit from Jets linebacker Demario Davis. The medical staff brought the cart onto the field, and Reed needed a spine board to leave.

Reed, a second-round pick by the Packers in 2023, is one of Green Bay’s three trusted starting wide receivers alongside Christian Watson and Matthew Golden. The 26-year-old signed a three-year contract extension worth $50.25 million earlier this offseason, cementing his role in the offense. Reed also dealt with injuries last season, suffering a broken collarbone in Week 2 of the 2025 campaign, making the timing of this latest injury even more unsettling.

Zach Bako-Bewele goes down on the next play

On the very next snap after Reed’s injury, right tackle Zach Bako-Bewele went down on the field receiving medical treatment. Anthony Belton is expected to replace him.

Without Reed on the field, Green Bay will likely lean on more two-tight-end or two-running-back packages to compensate. Reed was a foundational piece of the passing game, and his absence leaves a significant hole in the wide receiver room.

The Packers entered 2026 hoping to avoid the kind of injury wave that derailed stretches of their 2025 season. Instead, the first drive of the Jets game delivered the exact opposite.
