Day 3 picks are often the easiest picks to negotiate with because their guaranteed salary is typically fixed. Things can be tough for Round 2 and Round 3 draft picks because they’ve got some room to negotiate on guaranteed money. That shouldn’t be the case in Kansas City, as all players yet to sign should receive fully guaranteed deals based on their draft slots. So, what’s holding things up on those players getting signed?
The Chiefs still have the biggest contracts from their 2026 NFL Draft class left to handle
Canady joins RB Emmett Johnson, WR Cyrus Allen, and QB Garrett Nussmeier as the only draft picks to have signed their rookie deals in Kansas City. The Chiefs had roughly $7 million in salary cap space available before Canady’s contract. They’ve left the biggest deals and cap hits for last.
Chiefs 2026 NFL Draft Picks Not Yet Under Contract
The Chiefs have three more draft picks who still need to sign their contracts.
- Round 1, Pick 6: LSU CB Mansoor Delane
- Round 1, Pick 29: Clemson DT Peter Woods
- Round 2, Pick 40: Oklahoma DE R Mason Thomas
The Chiefs will have to restructure a few contracts or extend some players to create the necessary salary cap space to sign Delane, Woods, and Thomas. It’s only a matter of time before that happens. Thankfully, they’ll have players in town beginning next week with OTAs. Brett Veach will likely look to get some business done during that period to make progress toward getting the entire draft class under contract.
