Kansas City Chiefs’ first injury report for Week 2 vs. Indianapolis Colts previews familiar challenges to overcome on Sunday night
The Kansas City Chiefs don’t have many new injuries heading into Week 2 against the Indianapolis Colts. In fact, they’re getting a bit healthier after Week 1 against the Denver Broncos.
The Kansas City Chiefs have released their first injury report ahead of Week 2 against the Indianapolis Colts on “Sunday Night Football.”
The team remains relatively healthy heading into Week 2, but they’re still missing a few key players. Starting LT Josh Simmons and starting SS Chamarri Conner still haven’t returned to practice. I wager that neither player will be ready to return to the football field in Week 2.
Here’s a quick breakdown of the first Week 2 injury reports. Keep in mind that clubs can add to the injury report through Week 2’s kickoff on Sunday. They will release game status designations on Friday, Sept. 18.
Kansas City Chiefs’ Wednesday injury report for Week 2
| Player | Injury | Wed./Thu./Fri. |
|---|---|---|
| LT Josh Simmons | Back | DNP/ |
| DB Chamarri Conner | Knee | DNP/ |
| DE Ashton Gillotte | Foot | FP/ |
| WR Rashee Rice | Knee | FP/ |
| CB L’Jarius Sneed | Knee | FP/ |
| DE R Mason Thomas | Hamstring | FP/ |
| QB Patrick Mahomes | Knee | FP/ |
| DT Chris Jones | Calf | LP/ |
| CB Mansoor Delane | Shoulder | FP/ |
KEY: DNP = Did not participate | LP = Limited participation | FP = Full participation | NIR = Not injury related
Observations
- Xavier Worthy (shoulder), Trey Smith (hip), and Jack Cochrane (knee) are off the injury report entirely.
- Chris Jones (calf) was a limited participant in practice on Wednesday. This is planned veteran maintenance for Jones. He’ll likely go through it to some extent until the calf stops bothering him.
- DE Ashton Gillotte (foot) told reporters after Week 1’s win that he is still not 100% in his return from a ruptured plantar fascia.
- LB Cooper McDonald was placed on injured reserve with a knee injury. He won’t appear on the injury report for that reason.
- CB Mansoor Delane was a full participant in practice on Wednesday, a good sign for his Week 2 availability.

Observations
- Not many notable injuries for the Colts. Dulin is one of their top depth pieces on offense and special teams. Richardson is their backup QB, but they also have Riley Leonard. Ajiake is a depth linebacker and special teamer.
- Buckner, Allen, and Gaither being full participants is a good sign for Indy, as they’re the only starters listed with an injury.
