The Las Vegas Raiders revealed their initial 53-man roster. It won’t stay this way for long. They have the No. 1 waiver wire spot, so they will surely use that to their advantage. However, the initial 53-man roster showed something regarding RB Ashton Jeanty, and it’s definitely worth noting.

In the announcement, the Raiders tweeted that they listed each player who was waived (meaning they have not yet accrued four seasons), released (veteran players who were cut), and placed on IR (injured reserve). Two players were placed on the injured reserve. Carter Runyon, the tight end who seemed to be a fan favorite, was placed on IR. However, his placement included a “designated to return” tag. Crawford’s did not. So, his season will be over before it even starts.

Crawford was injured in the last preseason game. He was playing deep into the game and was eventually helped off the field by the trainers. And, you know who was not placed on IR? Ashton Jeanty. This means the Raiders feel his injury isn’t bad enough to warrant placing him on IR. It means they feel like he won’t miss more than four games. That’s as good news as the Raiders can get on Sunday. This is especially true after the bad news of Crawford being done for the year.

The Raiders could still be without Ashton Jeanty for at least one game

Now, this does not mean they don’t think Jeanty will miss any games. He could still miss Week 1 for all we know. However, the good news is that there is a picture of him walking inside Allegiant Stadium with his ankle wrapped. Now, it’s a picture. So, we can’t really tell if he was limping or anything like that. But even if he does have to miss, let’s say, Week 1, Vegas will be fine.

The Miami Dolphins are a team many expect to be among the worst in football. Having Jeanty rest while rookie RB Mike Washington gets some work wouldn’t be a bad idea. And next week, they will need Jeanty. They play their first AFC West game against the Los Angeles Chargers. If they want even a shot at the playoffs, you have to win your divisional games. Who knows what they plan to do. But it’s obvious that right now, he won’t miss the first four games. Of course, setbacks could always happen.
