After a near-miss on Sunday, the Miami Dolphins may be eyeing a roster change
After nearly seeing rookie linebacker Jacob Rodriguez forced into another role, the Miami Dolphins may be eyeing a change.
Miami Dolphins rookie linebacker Jacob Rodriguez just about did it all on Sunday against the Las Vegas Raiders. He played the run and defended the pass. He was all over the field — including on special teams.
But Rodriguez almost added another job to his resume out of necessity on Sunday, as long snapper Tucker Addington suffered a shoulder injury during the game. At one point, with Addington back in the locker room, Rodriguez practiced his long snapping. He was the backup plan. Thankfully, Rodriguez was ultimately not needed — and the Miami Dolphins appear to be looking into ensuring he won’t be in the future, either.
The Miami Dolphins work out long-snapper Cal Adomitis amid injury to Tucker Addington
The Dolphins, per the NFL’s daily transaction log, worked out long snapper Cal Adomitis amid Addington’s injury. Adomitis, who entered the league in 2022, has played for the Cincinnati Bengals and the Philadelphia Eagles and logged just short of 500 career snaps on special teams.
Dolphins head coach Jeff Hafley described just how close Rodriguez was to snapping against Las Vegas before offering some major praise to Addington for working through an apparent shoulder injury.
“It came pretty close. I mean at one point, that’s what was the plan. And I got to give Tucker a lot of credit. I earned a lot of respect, not that I didn’t have any, but I gave Tucker a lot of credit and respect for the way that he came out and snapped and played with what he went through. But it was close,” said Hafley.
Now the question is whether or not Addington’s shoulder injury is such that Miami is going to need to make a change. The special teams effort on Sunday against Las Vegas was among the lowest performers for Miami — but the snapping was just about the only thing that didn’t have an obvious issue. This injury may force Miami’s hand either way — and it’s hard to blame Miami for taking measures to keep their prized rookie linebacker out of a snapping role. He’s got enough on his plate.
